Evelyn has been working with Home Care for more than 22 years and describes the job as “very rewarding”.
She’s almost as close as family to some of her clients, helping with their day-to-day tasks for as long as 20 years.
“I’ve warned them I will probably turn up on their doorstep next week, saying ‘What can I do for you today?’,” Evelyn jokes.
“I might forget that I’m not working!”
Harry Cowhan, who was Evelyn’s final client on Friday, will be one of those who misses her frequent and cheerful visits.
“Evelyn has been coming to my late wife (Merle) and I for 18 years,” he told the Advocate.
“She’s the most caring and kind person you could ever meet.”
He added that the first time he’d seen her sit down in all those years was when the Advocate turned up on the doorstep to surprise them.
