After re-entering the pennants competition three years ago Forbes has stamped themselves as one of the more successful clubs, winning division three two years ago, and adding the division two flag last year.
While the strong Dubbo club is expected to field an experienced combination, the local club also has reason to feel very confident. Two former club champions Mark Collits and Justin Clarke are lending their matchplay experience to the team and have lost just once each this season.
Collits lost his match early in the competition while Clarke had his unbeaten run broken last weekend against Cowra.
“They have the experience to win being former club champions, they are playing well at present,” Forbes division two captain Daniel Bayley said this week.
One player who Bayley would love to have in his side this weekend is Kim Herbert, unavailable due to a previously booked golfing trip.
“Kim is unreal in match play, he just hits it down the middle and puts all the pressure back on his opponent. He hasn’t been beaten this year,” Bayley said.
Bayley has called upon Richard Nixon who filled in earlier this year playing at Cowra, only to lose his match on the last hole.
David Mylecharane makes up the team, and along with Collits and Clarke, Bayley feels the talented right hander has the game to also take a win tomorrow.
“Dave is a bit like Kim (Herbert), he hits it down the middle keeping the pressure on his opponent. I expect him to go really well. After losing his first two matches Dave has won his last three and is playing great at present,” Bayley said.
As for his own game, Bayley says “It has been a bit of a battle..”
“I’ve won two and lost two, but Sunday is a new day and I’m looking forward to it.”
Bayley said the Duntryleague layout is a very good test for all golfers from tee to green.
“You have to hit it straight, once you’re off the fairways the trees make it difficult while the greens are usually immaculate. It’s a good layout,” Bayley said.
The team for tomorrow in ‘batting’ order is – 1 Richard Nixon, 2 Mark Collits, 3 Justin Clarke, 4 David Mylecharane, 5 Daniel Bayley.
Tee off is from 8am with supporters from the Forbes club expected to converge on the Orange layout.
