“I’ve invited Prince Harry to come this year but he hasn’t replied yet,” Ms Decker said.
“I think it would be fantastic, it’d be such a thrill for the people.
“That’s one of the things he does, plays sport with people with disabilities.”
This year’s Special Sports Day, set for Wednesday, May 6, just so happens to fall around the same time Prince Harry will be in Australia as part of his four week visit training with the Australian Army.
Fingers crossed he makes a special visit to Forbes.
Even if Prince Harry can’t make it, the 35th annual Special Sports Day will be one to remember.
The event will be back at Red Bend Catholic College’s gymnasium and will kick off at 9.30am with a morning tea.
All the favourite races will be on the agenda including walking, dress up, three legged, egg and spoon, air instrument, musical chairs and the highly sought-after official march past for the Advocate trophy. The event will conclude with a dance.
“One of the highlights is the dress up race where we get clothing from Vinnies and they [competitors] have to go through a race and put on a coat, then a hat, then a handbag and then go to the finish line,” Ms Decker said.
“They’re very competitive.”
Ms Decker said the march past is another highlight of the day, where everyone is dressed up in uniforms and the person with the best march wins.
“The Advocate trophy is always fiercely fought,” she said.
Brian Tisdell will again play the bagpipes during the march.
Invitations have already gone out to everyone with people expected to come from Forbes, Parkes, Dubbo, Orange and Young for the day.
*The Advocate has just been advised that - unfortunately - the prince has declined the invitation to attend the special sports day.
