But even if you are not part of the full field competing for the coveted four person ambrose trophy, you can still contribute to the popular fundraiser.

Organiser Monica Sanderson said everyone is welcome to join the festivities at the Golf and Sportsman’s Hotel this evening, where there will be free entertainment, snacks for guests and the opportunity to bid for one of many items in the charity auction.

Mrs Sanderson, who organises the March golf day each year with her husband Ray, said it was simply not possible to accommodate everyone who wanted to play in the tournament.

“We’ve got more than 200 players,” she said earlier this week. 

“Some of them will be starting at 6.45am so we’ll have ‘spotters’ out there to help them find their ball, because it will still be dark then.”

Monica said an army of friends and family have volunteered to help ensure the day runs smoothly, including Forbes Machinery’s Robert McKeown, who will be chief of the barbecue, and the Men of League Forbes branch who will man the half-way house and mobile drinks cart.

Among the helpers is Maddie Sanderson, Ray and Monica’s grand-daughter, recently of Las Vegas.

Maddie’s parents Andrew and Ashley will team up with Ray in the ambrose in an attempt to win the trophy which carries their family name.

After the golf today there will plenty of entertainment at the bar, with Forbes couple Phil and Judy Prior providing musical entertainment.

Proceeds of tonight’s auction go to KIDS, a Balinese organisation which helps provide an education for children whose parents were killed in the October 12, 2002 bombing.

“Last year we supported 18 children who wouldn’t have had an education otherwise,” a proud Monica said.

The fundraising ball for this year is already rolling with Monica’s painting ‘Three Platypus’ raising $3100 at last weekend’s Rugby President’s Lunch. 

A local family are the new owners of the artwork.
