Currently there are eight councillors elected – Phyllis Miller, Graeme Miller, Chris Roylance, Jeff Nicholson, Dennis Booth, Graham Falconer, Michael Jelbart and Brian Mattiske - who will continue in their positions until the September 2016 local government elections.
On Saturday, May 9 the community will go to the polls to elect one councillor to replace the late Ron Penny.
“I have had a number of residents who think all current councillors are up for election on May 9 so I just want to clarify that is not the case,” Cr Miller said.
Cr Miller said a number of potential candidates attended the information session presented by the NSW Electoral Commission on Tuesday, March 24.
“A second information session will now be held at the council chambers on Tuesday, April 7 from 5.30pm and will explain the role councillors play in the community and what it means to be a councillor,” Cr Miller said.
“If you are interested in standing for council, please come along to the session and if you have any questions, don’t hesitate to contact myself or any of the councillors.” Nominations will close at noon on Wednesday, April 15. Nomination forms are available from Forbes Shire Council’s administration office.
