In the lead up to the competition in Sydney last month, Fyn trained twice a day and it’s fair to say his efforts paid off.
In the first heat Fyn was placed equal ninth out of 40 swimmers and made the top 10 final. From there Fyn swam his way to become the fifth best eight-year-old freestyle swimmer in NSW.
Fyn also brought home two personal best times and represented the Western Region in the all-age relay.
“I really enjoyed the competition and I’m happy that I swam my fastest,” Fyn said.
“I had a great time.”
This was the first time the young swimmer had competed at this level, with entrants needing to be eight this year to compete.
Fyn’s success started locally, where he broke two record at the Forbes Public School’s swimming carnival earlier this year.
From Forbes, Fyn went to the Lachlan championships and then onto regional before his state appearance.
While his training will wind down slightly for winter, there is no rest for the ambitious, with Fyn setting his sights on nationals in two years.
Fyn wished to thank his coach, school and his mum and dad for supporting his swimming.
