When both events happened to fall on the same day - Saturday, October 17 - the committees decided to form a partnership to work together to make both events bigger and better than ever.

“I think it’s a great joint venture and will benefit both events,” Forbes Relay for Life chair Carolyn Towney said.

“It’ll bring awareness to BBQ participants who normally wouldn’t have participated in Relay for Life, and also the other way.

“We’ll encourage relay teams to get a team for the BBQ Championships and vice versa.”

Relay for Life will be held on South Circle Oval and surrounds, while the National BBQ Championships will take place on Grinsted Oval.

Forbes BBQ Society president Chris Roylance said both events will still be run as normal but hopefully it’ll mean they’ll each get a greater turnout.

“I think it will work better for both events...we’ll share resources and people,” he said.

“There’ll be no change to the BBQ side of things, we’ll combine both together but we won’t encroach on each others’ area.

“We might actually get more people looking at the BBQ Championships.”

With Relay for Life running for just over 20 hours from Saturday, October 17 to Sunday, October 18, Ms Towney said it’s great that the National BBQ Championships will provide an additional activity for people to get involved in on the Saturday while they’re not walking.

This year’s Relay for Life theme is Circus Carnival, which will also roll over into the BBQ Championships.

Ms Towney and Mr Roylance encourage teams to get dressed up in the theme.

“There’ll be a lot of clowns on the day,” Ms Towney said.

“We seem to have a lot of clowns on the BBQ committee, so that’s fitting,” Mr Roylance joked.

There will be plenty happening on the day and Mr Roylance said the backdrop of Lake Forbes provides the perfect setting.

“It’s a good atmosphere here,” he said.
