Coached by injured first grade player Jarrod Nicholson, the team have grown in size and confidence.
Captain of the side Amy Hunt said when the team first met in January they had just six recruits.
“After having only six at training in January, we started putting some photos on Instagram and with word of mouth, a few weeks in we had 22 players,” she said.
“It’s going really well and each week we improve more and more.”
Now in the seventh round of the Group 11 fixture, the girls in black have played four matches and won three, beating Nyngan, Narromine and Cobar.
In fact, the only match they have lost has been against the competition benchmark Dubbo Westside and Hunt said her team’s tagging skills kept them on their toes.
“I think our whole team are the best taggers in the competition,” she said.
“Dubbo Westside are the team to beat and we kept them out for most of the game.”
The strength of the women’s league tag group has also seemed to bolster the club and the atmosphere at matches.
“The first grade, reserve and colts often come to watch our games,” Hunt said.
“They clap us on and are quite vocal which helps a lot. We always stay to watch their game too.
“I think it’s good for the Magpies to have a lot more supporters and we’ve become a big part of the club.”
This Sunday, the squad take on Wellington at Spooner Oval. Kick off is at 11am.
