Strike force Night Walker became operational two weeks ago, and has already led to the arrest of one person.
Acting Local Area Commander Nick Weyland, said Night Walker is the command’s “reactive response” to the recent spate of crime.
“We have formed a strike force which includes detectives from Parkes, our target action group and of course Forbes police to specifically target the suspects we believe are responsible for committing these crimes,” he said.
“To date we have arrested one person and we have a warrant issued for arrest of a second offender and we are confident they will be arrested in the very near future.”
The acting commander said it was important to note that a similar number of break and enters are occurring in Parkes and police believe the same offenders are responsible for these break and enters.
He said since Night Walker formed, police have already noticed a dramatic drop in property crime in the Forbes area.
“We have dealt with it and we are dealing with it, and that’s evident in the last 14 days we have only had four break and enters recorded,” he said.
Superintendent Weyland reminded the community to be vigilant in preventing and reporting crime.
“What we’re asking is for the community to work with the local police to help make the community safer,” he said.
