Forbes Shire Council has received a grant to hold microchipping days in a new initiative to reunite stray animals with their owners, rather than have them delivered to the council pound.
This Friday is the first of three microchipping days, with the aim of microchipping 300 companion animals over the three separate events.
Council ranger Andrew Hubbard said permanently identifying your companion animal with a microchip is a requirement under the Companion Animals Act 1998.
“Unfortunately many people do not follow these laws, which results in many cats and dogs found straying not being able to be identified and returned to their owners,” Mr Hubbard said.
The free microchipping day will be held at Nelson Park from 9.30am to 12pm and from 2pm to 4pm. All dogs must be on a lead and cats must be caged.
The microchipping day is by appointment only. Please call 6850-2344 to book your spot.
The next two microchipping days are expected to be held within the next three months.
