Red Bend defeated the Leeton-based Catholic college 26-4 in Leeton last Wednesday and now move into the quarter finals of the NSW Combined Catholic Colleges knock-out.
Red Bend teacher and coach Steve Hooper said his team made a slow start in very wet conditions, but managed to open the scoring with a good try to captain Tom Aveyard.
This was followed by a converted try to Benjamin Glasheen and at half time Red Bend held a 10-0 lead.
The visitors made the ideal start to the second half with Tom Aveyard scoring an excellent try from the kick-off, running 70 metres down the right hand side of the field.
With the conversion, this took their lead to 16-0.
Glasheen scored his second try after fielding a kick in Red Bend’s in-goal and running the length of the field.
St Francis scored a late try from a kick but Red Bend weren’t done with Jackson Hay scoring a try in the corner.
Steve Hooper said all players were great in the difficult conditions, and he thanked all the families that made to trip to Leeton to support the boys.
Last Wednesday's match was part of the regional play-offs with the Western (RBCC) and Riverina (St Francis) winners meeting in Leeton.
Red Bend will now meet the winner of the Wollongong (Edmund Rice College) and South West Sydney (Clancy College) play-off which is still to be played. The venue and date are yet to be determined.
