The semi-final carnival was played at Cootamundra’s Nicholson and Les Boyd Ovals, where the Red Bend opens were up against Holy Spirit College Wollongong, Canberra College Woden and Victoria University Secondary College.
Red Bend also qualified for the under 15s and under 13s semi-finals, however both younger sides were unsuccessful.
Red Bend opens won their third and final contest, against Holy Spirit College 24-0, and will now meet Terrigal High School in the grand final in Dubbo on August 5.
Red Bend teacher and manager of the teams, Steve Hooper, said the grand final will also serve as the final of the GIO Cup (country), meaning the winner will go on to play against the winner of the city division.
Red Bend opens have twice won the Country Cup, and were runners-up another year, making next month’s game the fourth time they have qualified.
“It’s a good result for the college, to get through to the final two schools in country New South Wales,” Hooper said.
Red Bend under 15s were up against Albion Park High School, St Francis Catholic College and Picton High, and won one of their games, while under 13s had a draw and a loss against Kiama High and Kildare Catholic College.
