The restoration of the Torana is a project Jeff Hemming and his team have taken on free-of-charge to help out Wangaratta father Alick Hinds and his family, who have had a rough time recently.
The car needed a complete restoration, with plenty of work done to it since it was picked up from Wangaratta at the end of June.
The team at All U Need have so far put in a solid three weeks work (at approximately eight hours a day) on the car, all out of hours in their own time.
While project was always going to be a big job, Mr Hemming said they’ve discovered a few surprises along the way which has slowed progress.
Despite being a week behind schedule, Mr Hemming is confident it will be finished by the unveiling on Sunday, August 23.
“We’re a week behind but we can catch up with a lot of hours,” he said.
“If it comes to it, at the end we’ll stay up all night to get it done,” All U Need’s manager Julie Dawes added.
Currently, all panels of the car are now done except the bonnet, with the painting scheduled for the weekend.
Custom Flow Exhaust in Parkes put the exhaust system in for free and the car will be heading to Queanbeyan on Thursday to be engineered for nothing, while the upholstery is in the process of being complete.
“It’s all pretty much done, it’s just a matter of putting it back together and putting the paint on,” Ms Dawes said.
“They have to paint first, then upholster.”
Ms Dawes said they are thrilled with the amount of support they have received from local businesses with Forbes Shire Council the latest to come on board to help with signage and promotion of the event.
The Hinds family will be making a trip to Forbes especially for the unveiling at All U Need.
A swap meet is also planned for Sunday, August 23 prior to the grand unveiling.
The swap meet will take place from 9am until 1pm at All U Need Restorations with gates open for set-up at 8am.
The unveiling of the Torana will then be at 1pm.
Entry is a gold coin donation with all proceeds to go towards the Diabetes Association.
Guest will be 2GZFM’s Neil Gill who will present a special broadcast from the event.
There will also be kids activities, a coffee van and refreshments available.
Limited spaces are available for the swap meet.
