The car had to be finished on Tuesday before it was taken to Canberra to be passed for an engineering certificate, so the team were busy putting the finishing touches on this week.

“The team here have put in over 100 per cent in hours to get it done,” All U Need’s owner Jeff Hemming said.

“There’s been lots of overtime.”

When the Advocate went to visit on Tuesday, there was still a bit of work to be done on the interior including putting in the seats, underlay, carpet and console, as well as painting of the bonnet. 

The work that had been done looked fantastic, with the Torana now looking like a brand new car after the massive facelift by Mr Hemming and his team of hard workers.

The car basically needed to be completely restored including plenty of panel work, upholstery and trim, paint, mechanical work, repairs to rust, fabrication and the replacing of the front and back windows.

The project was a very generous undertaking by Mr Hemming, who responded to Wangaratta man Alick Hinds’ plea to help fix up his car enough to get it back on the road so that he could take his four-year-old son to doctors appointments. Mr Hinds’ son had been diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes a few months ago during a month-long stay in hospital being treated for the kidney disease, Nephrotic Syndrome. 

The plea instantly touched Mr Hemming’s heart and he knew he had to help. 

Mr Hemming and the team have been working on the car after-hours since the start of July and are now very excited to show the fully-restored car to Mr Hinds and his family at a special unveiling on Sunday, August 23.

Mr Hemming and All U Need’s manager Julie Dawes will be heading to Wangaratta in a mini bus tomorrow to pick up the Hinds family and bring them back to Forbes for the unveiling.

Ms Dawes said Mr Hinds is very excited to see his car.

“He cries every time we speak to him,” she said.

As well as the unveiling, All U Need will also be hosting a swap meet on Sunday, starting at 9am.

Entry is a gold coin donation with all proceeds to go to the Diabetes Association.

The event will feature kids activities, a coffee van and refreshments. 

The unveiling will then happen at 1pm.
