Scores on Doors certificates are awarded following the annual routine food safety inspections by Forbes Shire Council where the initial inspection is found to be of a high standard.
Included in the inspection are general food safety aspects, food handling controls, cleaning and sanitising, food temperature control, pest control, premises design and construction and food labelling.
A five star rating means the business has achieved the highest expected level of compliance with hygiene and food safety standards.
The 22 eateries to receive excellent certificates were the Central West Livestock Exchange canteen, Forbes High School canteen, Forbes North Public School canteen, St Laurence’s Primary School canteen, Red Bend Catholic College boarders kitchen, Red Bend Catholic College canteen, Forbes Public School canteen, Econo Lodge Ben Hall Motel, Country Mile Motor Inn, Lake Forbes Motel, Subway, Bakehouse Xtension Café, Esmes Coffee Shop, Forbes Pizza House, Woolworths, BP Service Station, Pit Stop Takeaway, McDonalds, Plainsman Motel, Havannah House, Freshwater Dining and GaGa’s Café.
At council’s August meeting last Thursday, Mayor Phyllis Miller presented the certificates to representatives from each business in attendance.
“It was a really proud moment for me to present these certificates as I was the inaugural chair of the Food Regulation Forum under the NSW Food Authority, and we put the Scores on Doors program together,” Mayor Miller said.
“To have 22 food retailers receiving excellence is really pleasing as it’s not easy to receive such a high rating, the challenge now is for them to maintain that rating and the other food premises to rise to this benchmark next year.”
