The Lachlan Cup is a new concept, developed by Forbes and District Soccer, for boys and girls between eight and 16 years from Lachlan Association clubs.
Teams have been entered from Forbes, Cowra and Young junior soccer clubs, with hopes that Parkes will also join the competition next year.
Former Forbes and District Soccer president and Lachlan Cup co-organiser Johnny Kuntze said the tournament has been in the pipeline for three years.
“It’s been decided that it must start, and it’s planned to be held between the Lachlan Association clubs - between Forbes, Parkes, Cowra and Young - on a yearly basis, and the aim is to promote each town’s football competitions and to set up club rep teams for each group to play each other,” he said.
The inaugural event, which was to be played last weekend but was postponed by wet weather, will be staged at Forbes’ Botanical Gardens, with Cowra to host next year.
Kuntze said competition points would be up for grabs in each match (two for a win, one for a draw) with the club with the highest tally awarded the Lachlan Cup.
He said clubs would field boys and girls teams in most age divisions, however some mixed teams will play in some age groups.
Games will be 30 minutes long with most age groups playing four matches, starting from 9am tomorrow.
“There’s the potential to be approximately 350 players in Forbes on Sunday,” Kuntze said.
CanAssist Forbes will operate a barbecue at Botanical Gardens tomorrow.
Games kicking off at 9am: Under 8 Forbes 2 vs Young; Under 10 Forbes 2 vs Young; Under 12 Forbes vs Young; Under 14 Forbes vs Young.
