The Forbes District Cricket Competition will begin on October 17 with five teams again signed on for the season.
Forbes’ representative side will play their first round of Lachlan Valley Cricket at home grounds against Cowra on October 11.
Vice president of Forbes Cricket Association (FCA) Andrew Glasson said with a good combination of experienced players and quality junior players, he is expecting a strong season for the seniors.
“The two teams that were in the grand final last year are back and they were the strongest we’d seen in a long time,” he said.
“We’re also hoping for an influx of premiership winning under 17s players to come through into the seniors.”
Mr Glasson said he is also expecting a much more even competition this year, with some of the players in the top teams spreading themselves across the group.
The majority of the personnel are expected to return this year and teams are currently in the midst of firming up sponsorship.
The competition will run in a similar format to last year, with one-third of the matches played as a 20/20 fixture and the remainder as 40 over matches.
Twilight cricket will also return this year with the 20/20 matches played in the evening.
Players can still nominate for the season for both senior and junior cricket, and Mr Glasson said the FCA is “happy to see new faces at any time”.
The association also held their AGM earlier this week to nominate the executive committee.
Wayne O’Neil was announced as president, with Andrew Glasson as vice president and Mark Stirling as vice president cricket.
Jacob Reid was named secretary, Selwyn Bale will be treasurer with Nick Field as assistant treasurer.
Blake Neilsen and Andrew Bayley will share the publicity officer roles.
Mr Glasson said the committee has already shown good enthusiasm and come up with some fresh ideas for the 2015/2016 season.
