Forbes Shire Council has completed work to bring the courts up to the appropriate standards, including minor pavement repairs, line-marking, tidying the edges up and the installation of six new adjustable backboards and rings.
Forbes Basketball Association committee member Gavin Montgomery said they are thrilled with the upgrades.
“We’re stoked with it,” he said.
“The good thing is you go down there and see people using it. There are a lot of people down there after school playing basketball.
“Council’s gone above and beyond with that.”
The basketball association also received a community club grant from Forbes Services Memorial Club and are waiting to hear if they were successful in gaining another grant, both of which will go towards lighting for the courts.
“Lighting will go a long way to doing a winter competition,” Mr Montgomery said.
While lighting will be a significant addition for the association, Mr Montgomery said there are still lots of things they want including sponsors to help with the purchase of basketballs, whistles, scorecards, uniforms, etc.
The committee plans to start a basketball competition in the first term of next year.
