John, who coaches from the Nelson Park courts, decided to let the Forbes Advocate sports reporter draw some names from a hat.
Winners were Emma Herford and Liam Borger, who are two of about 30 students who attended weekly lessons with John at the Forbes North courts.
“All the playing group have improved dramatically this year so I felt the fairest way was to draw this year’s trophy winners out of a hat,” John said.
Tennis lessons followed the same timetable as the school year, and like the academic calendar, will come to a close next month.
John gave thanks to all who have helped with the lessons this year, particularly John and Peg Clifton from the adjacent Northside Chapel, who now manage the courts since the closure of Nelson Park Tennis Club.
Apart from Emma and Liam, the tennis coach also awarded a special prize to ‘ball boy of the year’ Bill Parslow.
