He will also be at Vanfest and he is one of a new breed on the indie Aussie music scene straight out of Bathurst.
We are of course talking about the Central West’s very own Matt Boylan Smith, who first came to attention in Triple J’s Unearthed competition with the song “Three Words”, and is now playing to packed houses everywhere.
Matt has just completed touring five countries and three continents to promote “Beacon in the Sky” – slated for release in early 2016.
It is an exciting time for the former advertising executive who has since shared the stage with some of the biggest names in music including Ash Grunwald, Ian Moss, Potbelleez and Sneaky Sound System to name but a few.
“Sometimes I pinch myself wondering how this all happened,” said Matt.
“But I play lots of gigs all over the place and was always of the view that law of averages might mean someone would one day see me play.
“That person was Sarah McCloud and after a referral to her manager the rest is history,” he said.
“It was serendipitous really that Sarah happened to see me busk.”
Boylan Smith has an eclectic taste in music to say the least. From inspirations such as Smashing Pumpkins through to Jeff Buckley, his ambitions to make it in music are coming to fruition not even three years after he decided to trade the advertising job for a career on the road in music.
“I listen to a lot of music, I play a lot and I try to work, grow and set goals,” he said.
“But most of all I try to enjoy it.
“That’s what it is all about.”
And his talent has been noticed by many, having also recently performed with and impressed Katie Noonan, Tim Freedman, Richard Clapton and Mental As Anything. Yet perhaps the most glowing endorsement of his ethic and talent came from Tim Ross or ‘Rosso’ as many would know him from the Sydney morning radio waves.
“Matt is an incredible entertainer and a versatile and extremely talented musician,” said Rosso.
“He is also one of the most professional performers I have come across.
“He was a joy to share the stage with.”
But for now the focus is finalising the EP with Jeff Martin and wowing audinces at Vanfest.
“I’ve never played in Forbes so I am really looking forward to it,” he said.
“Having a band as opposed to being a solo performer has given me more freedom to explore as a musician.
“And who knows, there may be a surprise for the audience yet but I can’t say too much so you’ll have to come along!”
Matt Boylan Smith plays next Saturday December 5 at Vanfest at 3.10pm.
Tickets are still available and volunteers are needed. Go to the Vanfest Facebook page or go into the Vandenberg Hotel.
