Jake Farriss comes from rock ‘n’ roll royalty. He is the son of Tim and nephew of Jon and Andrew - or the founders of INXS for those who aren’t well versed on Australian music history.

To say music is in his blood is an understatement, for Jake spent most of his childhood watching his father and uncles play in front of thousands of people at venues across the world.
Now, along with Ed Worland and Josie Leitch from band Twin Fires, he hopes to tread the same path. If his music and feedback from those in the industry is anything to go by, he is well on his way and it may not be long before we add another Farriss name to music folklore in Australia.
“We are a dose of Mississippi swamp blues blended with folk tales of lust,” said Jake.
“We have a great band and recently added Matt Corby’s drummer Mikey Hayden to the band as well.
“I am really excited about what we are doing and about playing at Vanfest once again.”
For those who don’t remember, Farriss and the band (then called Oxblvd) played at the inaugural event last year as the storm rolled in. Jake still laughs as he was in the middle of a sprawling psychedelic guitar riff when the announcement was made for everyone to take cover.
“Yes it was pretty funny,” he said.
“Here I was jamming away as the storm clouds rolled in and then everyone left to find shelter.
“Fortunately it happened right at the end of the last song.”
Having grown up around a who’s who of the music industry, Farriss is very grounded and when he is not playing for Twin Fires he is working or volunteering for NASCA (National Aboriginal Sporting Chance Academy) a cause that is very important to him.
“It is a not-for-profit organisation that allows me to be creative and encourage more creativity among communities,” he said.
“Helping indigenous people or anyone for that matter is important to me.
“It is something I still do and value dearly.”
Yet the focus for now is a new EP with Twin Fires next year, more tours and of course Vanfest.
“We have an amazing vocalist in Ed and great bassist in Josie not to mention Mikey who is sensational on drums,” he said.
“I know everyone is looking forward to showcasing our stuff and maybe the odd classic cover surprise.
“I can’t give away too much but I can promise it will be crazy!”
Twin Fires play at 5pm on Saturday December 5 at Vanfest.
