A youthful and relatively inexperienced Forbes XI was beaten by Nyngan in the Country Cricket knock-out at Nyngan on Sunday, after a dramatic batting collapse.
Forbes were chasing 203 for victory at Nyngan’s Frank Smith Oval, after bowling out the home team in 45 overs. The run chase was going well, with openers Jamie Hoswell (47) and Clayton King scoring 86 before the first wicket fell.
However, a succession of wickets led to the visitors being all out for 140, more than 60 short of their target. Jason Hoswell had the next best score, about 20 not out.
Abel Bernardi took four Nyngan wickets with the ball.
Forbes’ next match is against Parkes in the Grinsted Cup, with the challenge set for Sunday, December 13.
Stirling said this would be a good indicator of Forbes’ progress.
“Whenever we play Parkes we get a good idea of how we’re going, but I actually think we’ve made a huge improvement on where we were at this time last year,” he said.
Nyngan now progress to round four of the Country Plate series, with a match against Blue Mountains on December 13. A more detailed report and results from local cricket will be published in Thursday’s Advocate.
