About 15 students recently completed the Certificate III TAFE course, the majority of whom are Sureway clients.
The construction of two bench tables was part of the practical part of the four-week course.
Students also learn to drive and operate earthmoving machinery and at the end of the TAFE course they are qualified to work on any worksite including building, construction, mining sites etc.
TAFE teachers Terry Patteson and John Welsh said they usually donate the tables the students make during the course to a community group.
At the start of the course they ask the students if they know of a group who might need a table and it was suggested the Calarie Recreational Reserve Trust might need some tables for the Calarie Hall.
Calarie Recreational Reserve Trust’s Alan Pritchard said they have been working with Sureway and Joblink Plus clients to fix up the hall including doing maintenance jobs such as slashing the lawns, re-fencing the ground perimetre, fixing an old tractor. The hall is now fully lined inside and out.
“It’s been a great assistance to us,” Mr Pritchard said.
“At the moment we only have crappy old tables donated from garage sales. We’ll stick these tables in the hall or under the shade sail.”
The idea is for the Calarie Hall to be rented out at a cheap price for people wanting to hold functions there.
