Council advertised the position across the state from April 1 to 22, following the resignation of Brian Steffen.
Mayor Phyllis Miller reported to the April council meeting that McArthur Human Resourcing Consulting had been contracted to carry out the recruitment.
“We were very lucky to have 35 applicants for the job,” she said.
They expect to interview in the week commencing May 9 but will not rush the process.
“We are making sure that we make the very best decision for the Forbes community,” Mayor Miller said.
In the meantime, acting general manager Max Kershaw will remain in the position until the end of a handover period with the successful applicant.
