The preschool opened its doors at the Barton Street building to coincide with the start of term two on Tuesday and Forbes Preschool director Amy Shine said the first day was “fantastic”.
“Everything has gone amazingly smoothly, everyone’s relaxed, everyone was very excited,” she said.
“It’s a reflection on the staff - they’ve been relaxed and excited through the whole process.”
Everyone has settled in well to the new building and while some students were a bit overwhelmed when they first arrived on Tuesday, it didn’t take long for them to adjust to their new rooms.
On Wednesday Ms Shine sat down and had lunch with the kids to ask them what they thought about the new building.
“They love the lawn - we’ve got lots of lawn - and the really big sandpit, they love the playroom, they love the ‘magic’ hand basins and that the toilets have doors,” she said.
“The comments have been really positive from parents.
“We’ve had lots of bunches of flowers sent from community organisations. We really appreciate everyone’s support.”
The preschool also had glowing feedback from the person who came out to do their licensing.
“He said it was amazing, one of the best preschools, if not the best, he’s ever seen,” Ms Shine said.
After years of planning and designing, Ms Shine said it’s great to see how well everything has come together.
“We’re really lucky, we just realised how organised we are and how well we’re functioning,” she said.
“All that design over the years … it’s all paid off. It’s a little surreal, I’m still on a high.
“We had a really busy two weeks getting it ready so it’s very exciting to be finally working at the new preschool.
“It’s so nice to see everyone so excited.”
The preschool plans to hold a community open day at some stage to give everyone the opportunity to view the new building.
Once the students are fully settled into the Barton Street premises, the preschool will start taking new enrolments in line with their greater capacity.
