Regional co-ordinator Cathy Maloney said the biggest thrill of the night in particular was seeing the joy on the faces of two young men from Parkes, who had found an outlet outside of their home.

The expression on the faces of those trying their hand at wheelchair basketball said it all … something to look forward to.

“This has given them a reason to get out and make some friends, they had the biggest smiles on their faces,” Mrs Maloney said. 

“This is exactly what I am trying to achieve for people with disabilities,” she added.

“It also taught the other children there that not all people are equal, but you can still participate, have fun and make lots of friends.”

Wheelchair basketball will be played at Forbes High School hall each Monday during school terms from 4.30pm until 6.30pm, and is open to athletes of all ages and ability (the only stipulation is must be a current or associate member of WS NSW - join online to become a member). 

Mrs Maloney encouraged anyone who may have missed the come-and-try day to go along on a Monday afternoon, ask questions and see if they like it. Wheelchairs will be available for use during games.
