The exhibition opening will be this Thursday, May 26 from 5.30pm where the winners of each category will receive their awards.
The Waste 2 Art exhibition will then be open on Friday, May 27 from 12pm to 3pm and on Saturday and Sunday, May 28 and 29 from 10am to 2pm at Forbes Town Hall.
The theme of the 2016 competition is waste tyres, although that still allows works from all other waste types to be submitted.
Up to $100 prize money is up for grabs for the winners in each category including primary school, secondary school, non-professional community, open (which includes professional artists), as well as the annual waste theme category.
Winners of the Forbes competition will go on to compete in the regional competition, which is this year at Condobolin.
Waste 2 Art is a community art exhibition and competition open to everyone and aims to challenge people’s perceptions about ‘rubbish’ and to celebrate the reuse and recycling of waste through arts and crafts.
The NetWaste initiative provides an innovative approach to waste education and invites schools and community groups to take up the challenge and create a new life for materials that would otherwise have been thrown away
