There were many and varied topics on the agenda including NBN blackspots and mobile phone coverage issues as well as funding opportunities through the Federal Government.
Our motion was carried to start lobbying for a dedicated fund for sporting fields, which is great.
It may take some time but we won’t be letting up on it.
Council is committed to bringing our sporting facilities to the attention of all levels of government in order to receive continued funding.
We have had a lot of work happening in the CBD over the past month and I just want to thank you for being patient during this time, especially as there were a few delays due to the weather.
The CBD pavement works and the sewer relining in the CBD area are now complete.
The Rankin St pedestrian crossing work is up to stage two and is planned to be finished on Sunday, weather permitting.
The third stage of this project will be completed in July, which involves works in Templar Street. Once again, thank you for your patience and we apologise for any inconvenience these works may have caused.
The old toilet block at Lions Park was demolished last Friday and the new toilet block is now open for use.
The next toilet block to be upgraded is at the Botanical Gardens, with a start date to be confirmed.
Census night is August 9 and this year there is a new delivery and collection procedure, which will make it easier to complete.
We are happy to help anyone who may have difficulty in filling out their forms. I cannot stress enough just how important the Census and we want to make sure everyone in Forbes is counted this Census.
Pre-polling for the Federal Election starts Monday at the Town Hall. Absentee voting is available during a Federal Election, so if you are travelling, make sure you don’t forget to vote on Saturday, July 2.
This Wednesday, a special meeting will be held at 5pm in the Council Chambers to adopt the 2016-17 Operational Plan.
With the amount of rain we have had this week, please don’t drive in flood water.
If you are driving in wet weather, drive carefully.
Have a great week, stay safe and God bless.
Mayor, Cr Phyllis Miller OAM
