Forbes North Public School, Forbes Public School, Forbes Riding for the Disabled and Forbes Arts Society each received $2,000 from the platypus donations at the sell-out lunch held in March.
An additional $1,000 was donated to Forbes Auto Sports Club, who have been hit with two break-ins recently.
Forbes Rugby Club President’s Lunch committee member Chris Sweeney said they are more than happy to support the Forbes community.
“A big club supporting a small club is important; that’s the strength of a small town,” he said.
“It’s a family-type thing. This is helping someone else in our family who helped us out at our lunch.”
Forbes Public School will be putting their money towards their kitchen garden project.
“We want to be able to buy some kitchen equipment – we can grow but we don’t have anything to cook the produce,” Forbes Public School’s Katie Stitt said.
“The money will help ensure all students will have access to this program.”
Forbes North Public School will be using their donation to purchase a washing machine/dryer for their kitchen to wash aprons. They have been fundraising for a washer/dryer for years and chef Tammy Montgomery said they can now purchase it thanks to the $2,000 donation from the rugby lunch.
“We’re very excited – that’s a lot of jams and pickles that I don’t have to make,” she said.
“It’s really appreciated.”
The $2,000 donation for Forbes Riding for the Disabled (RDA) will be used to purchase a sulky for the transportation of the students.
“It will have a ramp on the back to load up the kids with disabilities,” Forbes RDA vice president Chris Roylance said.
“The donation is fantastic, we really appreciate their efforts. It’s such a great day too.”
This is the third year the Forbes Art Society has benefitted from the rugby lunch.
Forbes Art Society president Keith Mullette said their donation will be put towards the Amazing project which is now finished and awaiting installation.
“Without their support we would have struggled with this whole project, it’s been fantastic, we’re really grateful,” Mr Mullette said.
“[The money] will be going to complete the last of the payments for the Amazing. That will enable us to put the sculpture in as soon as the weather clears up.”
