Council has undertaken an assessment of its sporting grounds and ovals this morning and advises they are in poor condition due to the continued rain and saturation of the playing surface, a statement released by council late this morning said.
“Council has decided to open the grounds for use, but it will be the responsibility of each individual sporting club to undertake a risk assessment of the grounds to determine if the surface of each field is suitable for the intended use,” the statement said.
“Council strongly recommends that this assessment is documented and signed off by those undertaking the risk assessment.
“Should your club assess the grounds as suitable for use and approve the use of your allocated grounds, it should be aware that additional damage will be caused to the playing surface, which will have ongoing detrimental consequences for the remaining season.”
