But a District Court judge has found the wife of slain terrorist Mohammed Elomar was under the influence of her "dominant" and "overbearing" husband when she packed up her four children and tried to leave the country with suitcases full of items for him.

Fatima, 31, was handed a suspended prison sentence of two years and three months by Judge Penelope Hock on Friday.

She did not react when the sentence was handed down but smiled and cried outside the court as she hugged her family, who travelled from Brisbane.

Fatima was arrested with her children at Brisbane Airport in December 2014, carrying men's underwear, camouflage gear, solar watches, hiking boots, electronics, a shaver, $10,000 cash and her husband's birth certificate.

She later pleaded guilty to receiving items with the intention of supporting Elomar's entry into Syria, where he was engaged in fighting.

Judge Hock said Fatima clearly knew her husband was fighting with a terrorist group, but she felt she had to maintain her marriage by going to Syria, as Elomar had requested.

At times, she had expressed doubt about fleeing to the Islamic State heartland.

When Elomar texted her an image of his leg with bullet wounds, she asked: "Babe will you ever consider coming back home???"

He replied it would be "turning my bk on Allah".

Hours before she left, she asked him: "I need to know seriously [that you] don't regret your decision bcos I want to go to someone who will actually be happy to see [me]."

Elomar met notorious terrorist Khaled Sharrouf in 2011 and, according to Fatima, Sharrouf "exerted considerable influence" on him.

Sharrouf and Elomar joined Islamic State together in Syria.

After Fatima's attempt to travel to Syria was stymied, Elomar married Sharrouf's 14-year-old daughter Zaynab and impregnated her.

The pair are believed to have been killed in Syria last year.

Fatima's barrister Greg James, QC, had asked a judge to spare his client from jail, saying the items she bought him were innocuous.

Elomar's strict shopping list included orders to bring him anti-dandruff shampoo and adidas underwear. She bought most of the items on eBay under her own name.

"It wasn't to make him a more effective warrior," Mr James argued. "It was to clothe him in the circumstances in which he existed."

However, prosecutor Lincoln Crowley had asked for the maximum 10-year prison term, saying the items were not intended to go to a "rag tag bunch of amateurs".

They were supplied "with intention they would promote, support or assist her husband to go into Syria as a foreign fighter and a member of a well-known terrorist organisation", he said.

Judge Hock said Fatima had "substantially rehabilitated herself" in the two years since her arrest and had "stabilised her life".

She had largely severed tied with her late husband's family.

She will remain on a good behaviour bond for the duration of the suspended sentence.
