Ms White couldn’t believe her luck when her key opened the doors to the Holden Barina X during last Friday night’s major draw.
“It took a couple of days to sink in,” she said.
“I’ve only won a meat raffle before.”
Forbes Services Memorial Club had been running their car promotion since Tuesday, March 1 with weekly Friday night key draws over 17 weeks until last Friday, June 1.
Each week two members went into the draw and last Friday night another 20 names were picked, making a total of 52 people in with a chance to win.
The top 52 were narrowed down to a top 20, with each of those people given the chance to pick an envelope with a key in it.
“It went down to the wire - Lisa had the last envelope, number 20, and the last key,” Forbes Services Memorial Club general manager David Fitzgerald said.
The other 19 people didn’t go home empty handed - they each received $250 in cash, while the other 32 finalists won $100 cash. The car and cash promotion was worth just under $27,000.
The top-of-the-line, Holden Barina X is worth $18,000 with on-road costs and was purchased locally from Frank Spice Autos.
This is the first car promotion the club has held, at least in the 12 years since Mr Fitzgerald has been at the helm, however he said it’s likely there’ll be another one in the near future.
“There was a lot of interest shown from members,” Mr Fitzgerald said.
“Watch this space - there may be another promo shortly.”
Ms White said she plans to keep the car and share it with her uncle, Don White, who was also in the top 20 draw last Friday.
“This is for Uncle Don to drive, we’re halving it,” she said.
“We had a deal - if we won it we’d go halvies, not thinking our names would come out.”
