The development weekend, for kids born in 2005, is the forum from which a small number of juniors will be chosen to go to another jamboree at Tamworth.
Coach Grant Cole from Rock The Rim, Orange, says it’s the first step towards NSW Basketball squad selection and the training will take players out of their comfort zone.
“There will be a couple of country level coaches there,” he said.
“The idea is to expose the players to this higher level of basketball.
“I’ve had Sebastian at a couple of holiday camps now and he has a lot of ability.”
Cole was visiting from Orange and putting the young local through some extra drills on Friday afternoon.
“I’m sure he’ll dribble the ball until the brand wears off at home,” Cole said.
Sebastian plays in the local competition as well as constantly in the backyard with his siblings.
Cole would love to see some Forbes juniors reach higher levels of the game.
“Years ago Forbes was really strong in basketball, there were some good rep teams and kids that went onto All Star teams for the central west,” he said.
“Our goal is to get a superstar out of Forbes and encourage other kids to follow.”
