The event is in a corridor of land accessed via Angus Clarke Drive on Saturday, 30 July. Activities start from 10am and will conclude with a sausage sizzle at 1pm.
CWLL chairperson Margot Jolly said the group will help Forbes Shire Council plant out corridors off Angus Clarke Drive to extend the fantastic work done in the area.
“Council have pegged out the area and the soil conditions are perfect for easy digging and will give our plants an excellent start,” she said.
The community planting follows Forbes Schools National Tree Day planting on Friday, 29 July.
“We will be joined by up to 500 students for Schools Tree Day to start off the planting on this site, which is very exciting,” Ms Jolly said.
The events start with Eco Day on Thursday, designed to increase knowledge and hands-on experience to Stage 3 students from Forbes and Parkes shires. Landcare hope to extend this opportunity to more students in future.
Findings of independent research commissioned by Planet Ark over the last five years has found that contact with nature provides a range of happiness, health and wellbeing benefits, but our outdoor time is being eroded by increased screen time, longer working hours and shrinking backyards.
“Our research shows that you can grow happier by getting outside and connecting with nature, as outlined in our new report Needing Trees – The Nature of Happiness,” says National Tree Day Manager Debbie Agnew.
“Nature has the ability to influence happiness because it has direct and positive effects on the brain, so National Tree Day is a free and easy way to boost these feelings.”
