A loss to Narromine in the dying minutes of last weekend’s game has seen the Magpies drop to fourth position on the ladder.
And now Nyngan, who they face at Spooner Oval on Sunday, has claimed their second spot.
Magpies coach co-ordinator Cameron Greenhalgh was disappointed in the weekend’s loss; the side conceding a penalty with approximately two minutes left in the game to see Narromine take the prize, 32-30.
“We weren’t really in the game – there were too many errors and we didn’t complete our sets,” Greenhalgh said.
“At this stage of the season should not have been in the position to let the score be 30-all or let a penalty kick win the game.
“This week we have really worked on our defence and ruck areas – we were a bit scrappy and gave away a few penalties there on the weekend.
Greenhalgh said the side needed a good result this weekend, in order to stay within touch of the leaders in the run up to the semi finals.
The Magpies’ three remaining games are against teams in the top five, “so it will be a tough assignment”.
“We are hoping for a big crowd on Sunday – we are certainly going to need it – there should be four quality games of football.”
