Marathon runner Westcott is the oldest member of the Australian team at 40 years of age.
“We do have these dreams as adolescents and young adults and then they can be put aside for things like family and work,” he said of his chance to represent his country.
“But those dreams are important and they give us reason to get out of bed in the morning.”
Westcott was blunt when saying his chances of winning a medal at Rio are slim to none, with a number of runners from the likes of Kenya and Ethiopia having times roughly 10 minutes better than the Australian’s best effort.
But he will be giving the Olympic marathon run in Rio his all, with national and personal pride on the line.
