The weather is certainly playing havoc with the ladies bowls lately with no games being played again last week. Members please take note, there will be a Committee Meeting after bowls tomorrow (Wednesday). The General Meeting is held in October, not September. Delegates to the CWD are reminded that the next meeting will be held at Forbes on September 26. Morning tea 9.30am, meeting start 10am. Some of our ladies travelled up to Dubbo last week to take part in the Taber Shield which was won by the Mid West District with the Central Western District coming home second. On September 22, two teams will be going to Condobolin for the Jones Shield. This will be the 60th Anniversary of this event so our players can expect something special from the Condobolin ladies.
Teams selected to represent Forbes are:
Pat Hodson, Ann Mackay, Sandra Priest and Annette Tisdell. Anne Walker, Pam Stevens, Lyn Simmonds and Jan Waugh. September 29, the Cannon Merritt Trophy will be played against Parkes at Forbes. Selected to play are Margaret O’Connell, Glynes Ryan and Carmel Murray; Colleen Dean, Pam Stevens and Judy Girot, Anne Nixon, Judy Kerr and Lyn Simmonds. Anyone who can’t play in any of these events is asked to let the Bowls Committee know as soon possible. Two competition matches have been set down for tomorrow (Wednesday).
Major Fours: Marlene Kopp, Sandra Priest, Annette Tisdell and Leisa Burton versus Alison Cutcliffe, Pam Stevens, Pat Hodson and Anne Walker.
Veteran’s Singles: Jan Waugh versus Mary Everson (Marker Carmel Murray).
Social Bowls: names in by 9.30am for a 10am start. Good bowling everyone.

Croquet Notes for week ending September 17
Hopefully our flood waters will get away before the next lot of rain that is predicted. Our AGM was postponed because of water problems for a few of our members and it has been decided to try again for September 27, again at the Vandenberg hotel followed by a lunch to celebrate some of our members birthdays, with three special 80th’s on the agenda. President John and wife Cherylin are due home by then.

Bogan Gate Golf
By Shortie
More golf has been postponed than played. The Bogan Gate course recently was under flood so the Bogan Gate Mens Tournament was postponed until October and September’s golf has been a non event.
Games played in August: August 27 the club held an 18 hole Stableford event with a few dedicated golfers attending. Winner was Graeme Hunter with 33 points runner-up was Steve Edwards on 32 points no nearest the pins were won. August 29 the ladies braved the course and elements to play their 27 hole members Foursomes. Due to several factors the Foursomes was reduced to 18 holes. Scratch winners for 2016 was the pairing of Maureen Boness and Dorelle Scott with 109 Scratch, Handi-cap winners were the pairing of Shirley Nutley and Ida McIntyre with 102 net. The remaining golfing calendar has been amended. Please consult with Captain, Secretary or President for alterations.

Racing
By Colin Hodges.
Making hay while the sun shines was Nyngan trainer Rodney Robb led a recent expedition to the Simpson Desert Racing Carnival in outback Queensland. During his time away, many meetings were washed out in NSW including Parkes, Mendooran, Mudgee, Collarenebri, Grenfell and Walgett in the local region. Hosting the meetings were Betoota, Birdsville and Bedourie. The towns are on the border of the Simpson desert. Average rainfall, per annum, is about 125mm yet ironically the 2016 Birdsville races were nearly abandoned when around 50mm flooded the track during race week. Over the Carnival the Robb stable had five winners and with several placings picked up over $50,000 prize money plus a $3,000 bonus for Jen See See being the leading horse (3 wins) and $1,000 for Rodney Robb being leading trainer. Ridden by Dubbo jockey Kody Nestor for Rodney Robb and the owner Hunter Valley publican Wayne Brown,Jen See See came from behind to win at Betoota as a $2.80 chance. Jen See See (Kody Nestor) started the $2.40 favourite when leading all the way to win at Birdsville and completed the hat-trick when starting at $2.80 eq.fav. and finishing strongly after a slow getaway to win at Bedourie when ridden by Robb's apprentice Clayton Gallagher.
