Forbes’ 10th Open Gardens are not far away, organised by the Forbes Horticultural Society and Garden Club Inc.

This year it will be held one day only, Saturday, October 1, (of the long weekend), will open from 9.30am till 5pm and are non competitive, shared with you by very kind community residents for your enjoyment.
Wrist bands, will only be sold at No 1 garden, Forbes North School Vegie Garden, garden list and maps will also be available. Cost $15 for all gardens, $5 individual.
This year lunch will be at the No 3 Jemalong Residential Village (at own cost), stalls also on offer.
Below are the charitable organisations generous garden owners are helping, by attending you will be supporting them with their committees almost all volunteers who give their time along with a great job.
It is assured they will all be very grateful for your assistance, they are:
Forbes North School Vegie Garden – Garden project is self generating from produce being sold from the garden along with donations which help immensely. The children learn from preparing, planting, looking after, picking and finally cooking and eating/tasting, a great learning subject. A plant stall is also held each month at the Rotary markets.
Forbes North School in Richmond Program which helps the students in enrichment extending interest in varied extra curricular programs.
Jemalong Residential Village Volunteers – Jemalong Residential Village provides care for many, however the committee help provide those ‘ extras’ for residents, like bus trips, general outings and interests.
Sahara Disabled Riding School Forbes branch – this committee is hoping to purchase a buggy for wheelchair bound participants. They are raising funds so these needy people can enjoy this pleasurable outside ‘sport’.
Dragon Boats –They now have two boats and have built a shed (grant), as a sport they have many members who enjoy a sport with a difference on our Lake.
HWNS Little Learners Early Childhood Intervention – They cater for children from birth to school-age, (0-8), who have moderate to severe disabilities/developmental delays. They provide educational and therapy based services and offer support to families and children in their natural learning environment. They cover Forbes and its surrounding areas, Condobolin, Parkes, Peak Hill and West Wyalong.
Can Assist – Also run by a committee of volunteers. Can Assist can offer financial assistance to cover travel costs, accommodation, treatments and utility accounts.
All money raised by Can Assist Forbes Branch stays in the local community supporting those affected with cancer.
