When I joined Landcare in 2011 my welcoming committee went to great lengths to explain who was who and what was what and it still took me a few weeks to sort it all out.
We are often confused with our State Government counterparts, Central West Local Land Services (CWLLS) who provide advice on agricultural production, biosecurity, natural resource management and emergency management.
Central West Lachlan Landcare Inc (CWLL) run programs, workshops and provide services and training to members in the Parkes and Forbes Shire areas to help improve biodiversity, farming systems and educate the community about the part that they can play to improve the balance between biodiversity and sustainability.
We are registered charity with the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits, which means that we have to report to the ACNC (Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission) each year.
It is important to know the different roles of each organisation so that when you require assistance you know the place to source the information you require.
This is particularly important at the moment with the recent request from the CWLLS to landholders to report losses as a result of the recent weather conditions.
This is one of the emergency management measures that they provide on behalf of the government to ensure that our landholders can have the best possible chance to recover after an event like this.
I would encourage you to use this service if you have agricultural losses as a result of flood damage on 1300 795 299.
You may know that Central West Lachlan Landcare have been fortunate to be working with a Skillset Green Army Team. The Green Army Team and myself are looking forward to being part of the next National Parks Association walk on Wednesday, September 28.
As part of the undertaking of having a group, we have to provide a list of targets that we will achieve by the end of the program.
The walk will be in Cookamidgera National Park. Walkers are asked to meet at the park gate at 9am.
Please register your intention to walk and obtain directions from walk leader Peter Canon on 6862 1225.
Walkers are reminded to bring along enough food and water for the entire day as well as suitable clothing, footwear, hat and sunscreen. A pair of good binoculars and a fold up chair is recommended.
We are pleased to have Guy Webb speaking about the Soil C Quest project at our AGM on Wednesday, October 26 at 6pm in the CWLL Office.
We would love it if you could join us for dinner and drinks Please RSVP to me by Monday, 24 October.
Happy Landcaring!
