“There’s been this impression given by some in the national media that Forbes is shut, that shops have got three feet of water through them, that is not the case. 

“They are open for business,” he said.

Mr McCormack and Nationals candidate for Orange, Scott Barrett, talked to local businesses Tuesday morning including Little Extras Lifestyle, Robb’s Jewelers and Esme’s Coffee Shop.

“Obviously all of the retail shops are still open and I very much appreciate that some shops have had an impact from the floodwaters.

“I also appreciate the farmers, 70 percent of the cropping around this district has been destroyed by the floods, I understand that farmers are small businesses too and so that’s why I am pleased that the Commonwealth and the state governments have called a natural disaster for the area and are providing assistance.

“I would encourage, urge, implore and plead with anybody thinking of visiting Forbes to still do so.

“It’s never been a better time to go and shop local,” he said.

Scott Barrett, who has been in town for several days, reiterated the importance of supporting Forbes in its time of need.

“Forbes is open, come to Forbes.

“Stay away from the flood water of course, but come to Forbes and get a coffee,” he said.
