While all the rough and fairways on the holes played had been mowed and nearing their best it was the greens which drew most praise, and why not?
They are about as good as any golfers would want, perfect for a true line and pace.
Two who found their swing as good as the course were Forbes' Geoff Drane and Graham Cooke from Parkes, both scored 31 points.
In the count-back Graham, with the help of a four pointer, was declared the winner over Geoff who had a near perfect card with two and threes over the 12 holes to claim the runner-up prize.
With 27 players on Thursday the ball sweep went down to 23 points, and a long way from the two top scores.
Winners here were:
- 26 points, Barry Shine (F).
- 25 Milton Cartwright (F), Paul Kay (F), Joe Davies (P), Roy Bell (P).
- 23 Max Haley (F), Allan Affleck (P).
Encouragement award was taken out by John Whatmore with 10 points.
Nearest the pins:
- Nine A grade Barry Shine, B Milton Cartwright.
- 18th A Alf Davies (F), B Cassa Belley (P).
In the Mick Miller Shield where the best six scores from each club count Forbes scored 152 points to Parkes' 141.
Next Thursday's play is 18 holes at West Wyalong with nominations from 9.30am for a 10am tee-off.
Players representing the club at WW are reminded that the highway is closed prior to Marsden.
Travel is best advised via Caragabal so extra time for travel is a must.
After WW it is back to Parkes for 12 holes before Forbes on November 3 where local vets will hold their AGM from 9am before tee-off at 10am.
Last Tuesday 12 played Cheating Tuesday where one of the club's best handicappers, Garry Pymont, scored 28 points to top score.
With fine weather and a course on the improve Cheating Tuesday, and Thursday Vets, is the ideal way to spent a few hours in sport during the week.
Players of all talents are invited to play both competitions where a good relaxing time ranks about a winning score, well at least to most.
Some just don't get it when it comes to golf.
“I got a set of golf clubs for my wife last week,” a members said during the week.
His mate, a true Aussie commented, “That seems like a good swap.”
