The SCG Plate season for Forbes kicks off this Sunday, after a bye in round one last weekend.
The local side will face off against Young in a rematch of last year’s fixture. Forbes scraped home in a tough game that the experienced Young players really brought on to the local team.
A similar match is expected this time round, with some retirements, such as Jayme Sherritt and an injured Matt Roylance, seeing Forbes field a young side.
These players, however, have experience after playing together at the local level for a number of years, which should prove to be a big advantage.
The brothers Hoswell, Jason and Jamie, have two and four years of Forbes rep cricket under their belt, and the McDean trio of Brad, Jarrod and rising star Corey, are expected to play a big part.
“The pitch is green at the moment following this week’s rain, but it is hopeful for some sunny weather to give us some turf,” a spokesman said.
The game is due for a 10am start on South Circle Oval.
Local club competition starts on Saturday, at the moment set for turf but dependent on whether the pitch dries out enough.
“These family and rep team ties should also see some seriously hard battles in the Forbes Services Club Cup on Saturdays,” the spokesman added.
Junior club cricket started last weekend.
In the Under 17s, Frank Spice 6/110 defeated Gunns Mensland 10/106. The newly-formed Forbes Adept Plumbing was awarded a bye.
In the under 14s Mathesons 6/85 def Forbes AWB 7/72 and Dunns 5/90 def Hawkes 8/58.
Under 12s: Parkes Blues 71 def Bernardi’s IGA 58; Forbes Livestock 136 def Auswest 80.
