The announcement was made at the Spring Flood Recovery Races fundraising event on Saturday, 19 November.
Bankstown Sports Club has a close association with Forbes, where members have been attending and supporting the local Jockey Club’s August meeting for more than two decades, providing tens of thousands of dollars in sponsorship and support.
Secretary of the Forbes Jockey Club, Blake Nicholson, says the donation is an enormous boost to the club’s efforts to raise money for everyone affected by the disaster.
“A lot of the guys from Bankstown have become good friends of ours and when they heard about the floods they wanted to do something to help. Obviously $10,000 is a large amount of money and we’re very grateful to the club for its support”.
Bankstown Sports is working closely with the local council and SES to decide where the funds can be best utilised. One option is to put the money towards a second sandbagging machine.
“The sandbagging machine protects property, lives and homes in the Forbes Shire and we’d be ecstatic to see money used for something so worthwhile”.
