They attended an activity packed morning at the Forbes golf course to celebrate the completion of a five-week golf clinic held at school.
The Thursday clinics were run by Forbes Golf Professional Dan Newton and involved the whole school from Kindergarten to Year 6.
This is the second year of this annual golf program funded by the Government.
“The students are so lucky to be learning golf from a professional every year from Kindergarten,” School Sports Coordinator Katie Stitt said.
“Imagine how talented they will be by the time they leave Forbes Public School.”
Any primary school in Australia can apply for these grants three times a year by visiting www.sportingschools.gov.au
Sporting Schools is a $100 million Australian Government initiative designed to help schools to increase children’s participation in sport.
Sporting Schools is in partnership with over 30 National Sporting Organisations who will organise a coach to go to the school and run sessions (a minimum of four).
The grant also allows schools to buy necessary sporting equipment so Forbes Public School purchased a primary and a secondary golf kit thanks to Jack Newton Junior Golf and Golf Australia.
“The golf program was absolutely brilliant,” Mrs Stitt said.
“Dan had wonderful activities planned each week which taught different skills such driving, chipping and putting.
“The students loved the session where Dan set up holes using ropes, hoops and flags.
“I would recommend other primary schools apply for the Sporting Schools Grant and select Golf so that their students can benefit from learning from an expert.
“It’s a great way to support local sporting facilities and introduce children to new sports.”
