Former Bedgerabong local Logan Brockman has been named the Central Western CWA Group’s most deserving fourth-year apprentice.

The annual award is given to an apprentice in their fourth year, which Logan is about to commence.
It’s a cash prize based on the proceeds of the CWA’s stall at the Orange field days at Borenore.
Central Western Group president Helana Donaldson said the award started in 1997 and is run by the CWA and Skillset.
“The award is given to a fourth-year apprentice in any trade and is chosen by the Skillset team,” she said.
The funds go to the apprentice to be used however they need.
“We often get feedback – thank you cards or letters – telling us how they spent the money,” Mrs Donaldson said. “It’s often used for tools associated with their trade or to attend a particular course.”
Mrs Donaldson congratulated Logan on his work to achieve the award.
“Logan is a house-master at Kinross, he plays rugby and coaches young kids,” she said. “He is very well-rounded and bright young man.”
Logan is studying carpentry, has also just completed his certificate in building and is employed by SD Homes.
Mrs Donaldson said it gave group members great pleasure to be able to support a young apprentice in this way each year.
She said the award had become increasingly generous in recent years as the CWA received excellent patronage at the field days.

Bogan Gate CWA has had a successful year with many activities keeping us all very busy.
Our Office Bearers for the incoming year are: President – Marion McIntyre; Vice-President – Gail McKay; Secretary – Ros Edwards; Treasurer – Hilda McPherson; International – Heather Veal; Cultural – Ida McIntyre; Publicity – Gail McKay; Councillors – Shirley Hunter, Dorelle Scott.
Our new President Marion McIntyre welcomed all to our November meeting with 10 members present, and special guest Rene Britt from Parkes.
Gail McKay gave her Publicity report and was very pleased to announce that we had won the Lorna Peters Trophy for best Publicity report at the recent Oxley Group CWA AGM.
Our Cultural officer Ida McIntyre introduced Rene Britt to talk about her days growing up in Bogan Gate. Rene entertained us with her interesting stories and tales.
A reminder of our Christmas Party to be held at the Bogan Gate Hotel on Thursday December 15 for midday luncheon.
President Marion will attend the Bogan Gate School Presentation night to present our CWA award for International work to the children. We are planning to organise a Diabetes morning tea in February 2017 for all to attend and learn about this.
We recently hosted and catered for the CWA Oxley Groups’ Council meeting in Bogan Gate. We will now go into recess until February next year and we will be catering for the annual Bridge day between Condobolin, Parkes and Forbes on April 2.
