The Parkes Elvis Festival officially started on Wednesday and what a great success it has been so far. I attended two functions as a guest of Parkes Shire Council and they were both fantastic. Don’t forget about the shuttle bus service that Council has organised between Forbes and Parkes.

The full schedule is available on our website at www.forbes.nsw.gov.au and at each of the bus stops. Council has also planned a movie night with the screening of Viva Las Vegas tomorrow night at the Forbes Youth and Community Centre from 8pm. Tickets are $5 and available at the door.
The hang gliders had their last day of competition last Friday for the annual Forbes Flatlands Hang Gliding Championships. Unfortunately they did have some bad weather during competition but they still had a good event with more competitors than last year, which is great.
Yesterday Minister for Justice and Police Troy Grant, announced $128,430 in funding for the Forbes SES Unit for a new shed and hard-stand area to support sandbagging operations and training.
During times of flood, this will mean sandbagging can continue during wet weather and into the night.
Already the SES do such a wonderful job along with the community members who volunteer to help sandbag in times of emergencies, but this funding will help our community be even more prepared.
Our new Member for Orange, Phillip Donato will be in Forbes next Wednesday for a meet and greet with the community. Everyone is welcome to attend and the event will be held at the Forbes Town Hall from 12pm to 3pm.
Australia Day is just under two weeks away and plans are in place for a fantastic day out. During the afternoon the announcement of the Forbes Shire Citizen of the Year and Forbes Shire Young Citizen of the Year will take place. Nominations are open until 5pm on Wednesday, January 18 and forms are available at Council’s administration office.
