with Short Putt's Mate
Forbes veteran golfers dominated at the monthly 18 hole Lachlan Valley competition played last Thursday in Condobolin. Only Greg Moncrieff from Condobolin stopped a clean sweep by Forbes players after he took out A grade with the very good score of 40 points, the best of the day. Runner-up was Forbes' Ted Morgan with 39 on a count-back, another who is never far from the money in vets competition.
In B Grade it was all Forbes with Tony Bratton with 38 points and on a count-back from Milton Cartwright. Forbes players didn't figure in the encouragement award with Michael Lynch (Parkes) and Brian Tickle (Condo) both off their game recording a modest 25 points each. Nearest the pins, ninth Fearless Frank Hanns (Forbes), third Ian Phipps (Parkes), 17th Peter Mawhinney (Grenfell) and sixth Geoff Coles (Forbes). Forbes and Parkes shared the Geoff Coles/Mick Miller Shield with their best three individual scores adding up to 115 points each. Warm conditions 51 players from Condobolin, Parkes, West Wyalong, Grenfell, Cowra and Forbes competed on a course surprisingly in good order despite the recent heat wave conditions.
