Mayor Graeme Miller paid tribute to Mr Clarke as “an integral part” of the council staff in a number of roles over many years – most recently as Manager of IT.

“All of us wish you all the best,” he said.

Mr Clarke thanked councillors, directors and staff he had worked with over the years.

“I particularly appreciate the opportunity to take on the work I do with the fire brigade, to serve the community that way,” he said. 

While Mr Clarke hasn’t made many plans for retirement, at this stage he will continue his work with the Forbes fire brigade. 

He is currently captain of the local brigade, having served with them nearly 40 years.
