Local junior Tom Morrison was a stand-out – achieving personal best scores in the slalom and trick events.
He placed second in both to come second overall to Tee-Jay Russo from Sydney in the junior boys competition across two days.
In the men’s events, Jono Collits won the men’s 2 trick category and placed second in the men’s 2 slalom to rank second overall.
Jim Cronin placed second overall in men’s 3, with third places in both slalom and trick events.
The competition attracted 43 competitors who enjoyed great support from the spectators.
Local competitors included Joff King (eight overall), Tas Spackman (10th overall), Tim Burke (13th overall) and Angus King (14th).
Organiser Jim Cronin said the weekend had been another successful one on the water, with good support from skiiers and spectators.
He said the crowd loved Pete O’Neill’s show skiing and fly board demonstrations and thanked the sponsors for their support of the event.
This is the third year Forbes has hosted the barefoot ski tournament and it’s increasingly popular with local participants.
The weekend’s competition followed three days of coaching which booked out so quickly organisers added a third day and a second venue for clinics.
The NSW Barefoot Water Ski Club rallied three super coaches to mentor keen barefooters from juniors through to adults.
The three-day workshop involved beginners starting on a boom, progressing to a short rope and then to behind the boat.
It was an opportunity to good to pass up with training from 10-times Australian Champion and twice third in the world, Pete O’Neill, as well as Australian Junior Team Assistant Coach and NSW Team Coach, Brendan Chattaway.
Current Australian Trick Champion Brendan Paige, ranked second in Australia and seventh in the world was the third coach to help out and then compete on the weekend.
Men’s honours went to Kye Cornall and in second place Connor Rogers.
Men’s 2 category winner was Clay Grono, with Jono Collits in second and men’s 3 winner Harry Giffen with Sam Bell in second.
