Orange City’s Blowes Clothing Cup counterparts Cowra look to be one of the Lions’ biggest obstacles at the Eagles’ annual Twilight 10s this weekend, the hosts boast a formidable side.

With a number of invitational, Sydney and Canberra-based clubs once again turning out, the Eagles will be led by the likes of excitement-machines Jeremy Montgomery, John Grant and Mitchell Budge.
Although, the hosts would be even stronger but a number of their guns will line up in other sides competing, which organiser Adam Meiklejohn said is obviously a positive move for the competition and the Eagles club.
“There’s a heap of Cowra people involved, this is one of the best representations of Cowra rugby players at the 10s in a long time,” Meiklejohn, himself playing in an invitational side, said.
Orange City, headlined by the likes of Sam Coote and Logan Brockmann, will face one of those sides first up. The Lions begin their tournament at 12.02pm on Saturday against The Paddys, a side playing in the memory of Paddy Lamond.
The side will feature the Lamond brothers, Conor and Joe, along with Sam McNaught, Dan Wright and Luke Smith.
Orange City takes on The Hills, from Sydney, after that and rounds out its preliminary campaign against Wagga’s Estella Exiles.
Meiklejohn will be joined in the Greylands side by Charlie Dunhill, Mick Delaney and Cameron Leal, they’ll take on perennial contenders the Woodstock Wallys first up.
The Riders of Rohan, formed by Bill Cummins and former Kinross gun Jason Date, along with the Unstoppable Mudchooks, reigning champions Queanbeyan Whites, Queanbeyan Blues, Wagga Ag College, Stannies Old Boys, Goulburn and Gargoyles will also be in action.
“The Wallys have a great record at the 10s and the Mudchooks might be unstoppable again,” Meiklejohn said.
Meiklejohn struggled to identify a single player who could light up the tournament but expects entertainment from the strong contingent of Cowra players as well as the spectators who generally create a Rugby Sevens-type atmosphere.
Organisers will announce several awards including $100 prize for best dressed mascot or fan. There is also more than $3,500 in prize money up for grabs across the Cup and Plate competitions, the winner of the former takes home $1,800.
